I remember a Christmas that I was SO sad I didn't get a REAL horse for Christmas. (Now being a parent it's quite obvious why, but those childhood dreams seem so achievable!) So Grandpa came to the rescue... he had a horse and gave me half of him. "Whichever half I wanted but the front half had to be fed and the back half had to be cleaned up after". I'll never forget that Christmas. From then on Geranamo was mine- Grandpa would always ask when I was going to come feed my horse... that never happened except when it was convenient but I remember lots of rides.
Now Kaylee is into horses. It is so fun to watch her excitement about them. What is it that's so facinating to a little girl about a big horse? Is it that every princess rides off on one with a prince? Is it that it looks so elegant riding one --well, some people do anyway. I don't know what it is but Kaylee has the horse magic. She loves her stick horses, named Lucky and Geranamo, but most of all she loves COWBOY, the real horse. It's not hers but as close as she'll get- it's Jessica's (my sister). But this year Kaylee has loved riding him and has become a cowgirl through and through. She loves the fact that she has her own saddle and can steer Cowboy all by herself. She loved the Mini-rider competitions this summer, I didn't think her grin would ever come off. (Mine either, I was so proud of her!) She shows off her trophy to anyone who's interested. Kaylee has a whole box of shoes her size but the only ones she'll wear are her boots... we're lucky she'll wear church shoes on Sunday! I love her tireless desire to gallop around the frontroom and down the hall and her pleadings for the horse named Butterscotch at all the stores. (You'll know this horse when you see it-- it's big, it moves and is too much money.) I hope she'll always love them though- there is something magical about them.
